Black is Black Ain't: Limited Engagement Exhibition

When: October 31 - November 12, 2006

About the show

In conjunction with the Vassar African Studies Department and the Dean of the Faculty's Office, the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center will host the exhibition Black is Black Ain't, an exhibition that celebrates the contributions of African Americans to the film industry. On loan from the Separate Cinema Archive, this selection of film posters chronicles the long journey of this country's black film stars, including Paul Robeson, Ethel Waters, Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, Sidney Poitier, and Spike Lee, among others. This exhibition has been organized by Mia Mask, assistant professor of film and John Kisch of Separate Cinema, along with the assistance of the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center. Sponsored by the Friends of the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center. Open to the public.
