India in Miniature: Paintings from the Loeb
When: January 24 - April 23, 2017
About the Show
This Focus Gallery exhibition presents, on an intimate scale, works on paper from India comprised of miniature compositions in a rich spectrum of colors, patterns, and types. Dutch botanicals, Indian war elephants, Judeo-Christian angels, Rajput princes, European linear perspective, British colonials, and Hindu yogis mingle in these scenes. Some come from imperial centers like Delhi, Agra, or Lahore; most originated in the semi-independent kingdoms of the Punjab hills, Malwa plateau, or Rajasthan. Organized by the Art Center and Julie E. Hughes (History Department).
